Artist Ichihiko Yamatani
Renowned Japanese artist Ichihiko Yamatani has creatively combined the basic earth elements of water and clay with light and sound to create the unique designs brought forth from his potter’s wheel. Ichihiko understands the therapeutic benefits of flowing water in a natural setting to create an atmosphere of calmness and serenity. His Asian-influenced designs seek to capture and build vital Chi, and in turn enhance the Feng Shui of any environment. |
Born in Kyoto in 1954, Ichihiko graduated from the Sekatanki Art Institute in Kyoto where he mastered in artistic design. His appreciation of the arts continued under the tutelage of famous Japanese obi designer Yamaguchi Seiji as an intern Nishijin Obi design artist until the age of 30. In 1987 Ichihiko took up residence in picturesque Shigaraki, Japan, which is renowned for its abundance of ceramic artisans and remarkable pottery designs, to focus his artistic talents on his true passion - the potter’s wheel. Shortly thereafter he began creating his own unique designs and started the now-famous Seseragi series of fountains. |
The Seseragi designs are Ichihiko’s most well-known fountain creations which many other designers have attempted to copy, but beware of these cheap imitations as many of them are machine-manufactured out of plastic or other man-made materials.
In 2002 Ichihiko began mixing both light and water into his designs and the Urara series of fountains was born. In addition to Ichihiko’s award-winning fountain designs, he has created numerous works-of-art such as vases, table lamps and wall-hangings - any of which would be a beautiful addition to your home, office or garden.
